10 TIPS FOR GETTING NEW CLIENTS
BRUSH UP YOUR KNOWLEDGE
You know that you’re an expert, so make sure your clients know this too. Sharing educational content on your social media shows any potential new clients that they can trust you, your experience, and knowledge.
TALK THEIR LANGUAGE
When you’re doing treatments every day, it can be easy to forget that your clients may not understand some of the more specific treatment terms. As much as you want your clients to feel that you are professional, you also don’t want to isolate them. Be sure to explain the treatment to new clients in words that they would use too.
CREATE A WEBSITE
Although lots of people are now using social media to seek out salons, don’t forget that people use Google too. Setting up a website is a great way to grab the attention of clients using search engines. It doesn’t have to be a complicated or expensive venture; try out platforms such as Wix to build your own professional looking website free of charge.
Top tip: why not include a before and after gallery to show off your work to those who are not on Facebook or Instagram.
BE A MYTH BUSTER
When talking to potential new clients, how many times do they say things that you know are just not true. We’ve all heard “gel manicures will damage my nails” or “you shouldn’t remove hair from the top of the brow” or "lash extensions damage my lashes" at some point in our careers. Use your social media accounts to bust these common myths. Not only does it help educate your clients on what they can expect from the treatment (and why it will work for them), but it shows you as a professional who knows their stuff.
UNDERSTAND HASHTAGS AND USE THEM
Using hashtags can seem a little complicated, but it’s actually really simple. Think of them as the keywords that you want to be found for when your client is searching on Instagram.
SHARE YOUR WORK
Regularly share your before and after photos so clients can see all the amazing work you do every day. Try mixing up your content with photos and videos. Combine your great content with hashtags to attract new clients.
PHOTOGRAPHY IS KEY
Ever created a beautiful treatment result but the Instagram photo just doesn’t do it justice? Your social media pages are your portfolio to bring in new clients, so make sure you give your work the photography it deserves. It’s not about using a fancy camera or equipment; all you really need is your phone and a ring light.
ENCOURAGE REVIEWS
If your existing clients are always singing your praises, encourage them to leave a review on your Facebook page or website. Reviews and recommendations play such an important part in the decision of choosing which salon to go to and build a level of trust before the client has even sat in your chair. You can even share these on your Instagram so they’re easy for new clients to find.
STAY AHEAD OF THE GAME
Looks and products are constantly evolving, so it’s important you stay ahead of the game so you can offer your clients what they want. Attending refresher & advanced courses, or even just researching the next big trend will ensure you’ll never be left confused by a client’s requested look.
OFFER CONVENIENT BOOKING
With everyone’s busy lives, clients can’t always call or message you within your working hours to arrange an appointment. Offering an online booking platform makes it really easy for clients to get booked in with you.
Some platforms, such as Timely, also offer email reminders ahead of the appointments and the option to take a deposit, helping to reduce the number of cancellations or no-shows.
